The reaction time for weapons swap needs to be tuned up a bit. Having it on the R2 button is bad enough and I think might be part of the problem. But too many times the controls do not respond or bring up the silly weapon's wheel instead of actually swapping weapons.
First separate weapons and equipment. Put equipment on the unused Left D-Pad button. Now with only the ability to carry two weapons who needs a wheel? Forget the wheel, make it a simple swap between the primary and sidearm, ensure the control is responsive, shave a second off the swap time or....at the very least make weapons swap a skill we can improve.
Because as it is I am thinking of just forgoing carrying a secondary altogether since trying to use it in the thick of a fight has gotten me killed more times than it has helped me.
The second thing is grenade throws. This is another animation that only engages half the time when L2 is pressed and then the animation is so slow (and the movement speed of the enemy, so fast) that by the time you throw the thing they are well out of range. Heck, half the time I cannot even tell if the grenade even exploded.
Anyway, I know there is a laundry list of things you are all working on a CCP, and these are just two small suggestions that could go a long way toward smoothing out the game-play mechanics a little bit. Thanks for a great game and a REAL beta :)
WOW. I have to Say I just put out a thread addressing most of the same issues you just brought up and for the most part I tend to agree with your insight. I find that there are a few things misplaced on the D-pad and the weapon swap being on the R2 I am not a big fan of, especially since weapons and equipment are combined onto one control, and the control itself being integration of both push button hot swapping and contextual wheel.
Equipment should be on the D-Pad. Weapon swap should be a single hot swap button.
The idea of having a skill that can improve the swapping speed, I Like. Adds more variety and complexity. Almost like a Quick Draw Skill. Here comes the Wild Wild West a la SPACE Clones. YEAH!
Over All I like the weapon mechanics so far, though there is always room for adjustment. Speaking of which more adjustments for the control sticks, i.e., dead zone calibration along with the sensitivity.
We should push this or what I have suggested (just for the button layout) customization of the actual layout since there will be the same available for KB/M support. |
